Meet Kristi Davis, Team Lead-Underwriting Assistants, Surety UW Center, North America
Please tell us about your career journey and your path to Sompo.
My journey to Sompo is long and winding, but the destination has been worth the wait. After graduating from Auburn University, I had multiple roles over the next 17 years. Most of those roles had a sales and/or marketing component as well as other duties, depending on the particular field I was in. Fun fact: I can both tarp a baseball field and set up a landing zone for a medical helicopter. I tend to know just a little bit about a lot of random stuff.
After moving back to Nashville, I reconnected with a friend who had recently started her career at Sompo. She referred me to an open Underwriting Assistant position that ended up being a perfect fit; I felt right at home. Since I joined Sompo in January of 2021, I have had the opportunity to learn all about Surety and work with some of the most amazing people I have ever known. Shortly after my first-year anniversary, our Team Lead was promoted, leaving a vacancy. I was able to take my experience in leadership along with my newfound knowledge of Surety and translate it into this new role. Since becoming a Team Lead, I have had additional opportunities to learn more about Sompo, Surety, and Leadership from the best in the business. I look forward to continuing to grow with Sompo and to one day retire from here.
What advice do you have for prospective Sompo candidates?
I would advise anyone interested in joining this great team to bring a great attitude and a willingness to learn. If you do those things, the support is here and only you will be responsible for any limits to your success. Sompo’s culture is the best I have ever encountered.
Tell us about an initiative at Sompo that you are most excited for in 2023.
I am most excited to see the launch of our US Surety Digital Hub in 2023. This innovation will take our already top-notch Surety team to new levels of productivity and elevate our customer experience.
What is your idea of a perfect day outside of the office?
One of my favorite things to do is go hiking with my husband, son, and dog. My favorite hikes have a waterfall somewhere along the trail. So, a perfect day for me is taking a nice waterfall hike with my family on a crisp fall morning, then eating a delicious lunch with some college football on the tv followed by a nap.
